Europos Parkas has started the project for revitalizing of Liubavas manor

Public Institution Europos Parkas is implementing the project "Restoration of Liubavas Manor Watermill and its Adaptation to Cultural and Public Needs". The project is supported by a grant from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the EEA Financial Mechanism and co-financed by the Republic of Lithuania.

The project is dedicated to preservation of valuable cultural heritage object in the district of Vilnius. Its duration is 18 months. Main purpose of the project is restoration of a former Liubavas manor watermill and its adaptation to cultural and public needs.

Total cost of the project is 548 136 EUR. The grant from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the EEA Financial Mechanism is until 410 006 EUR, co-financing from the Lithuanian Government budget is 82 221 EUR and co-financing by the project promoter is 55 909 EUR.

Liubavas watermill building is characterized by high quality of construction works, building materials and technical equipment. In order to preserve and reveal valuable properties of the object to the maximum extent, the mill will be used as a museum. It will make it possible to keep the building alive and to adapt it for cultural and public needs.

One of the expected results of the project is demonstration of the process of operation of the technical works of the mill after they are restored. An exposition revealing the history of the Liubavas estate and its surroundings, propagating use of renewable energy sources will be created in the mill-museum.

The construction works for restoration and adaption of the mill will be performed by V. Liutkevicius' sole proprietorship Nivara, which is experienced in management of heritage.

The manager of the project, the sculptor Gintaras Karosas emphasizes that the major advantage of this project is its complexity: a vanishing object of cultural heritage will be preserved, after its adaption for cultural needs it will become an authentic educational source for the society. "We hope that the wantonly forgotten Liubavas vicinity and the manor, which has been here for several centuries, will take an important place in the context of cultural heritage, therefore, we have a lot of work ahead of us trying to make the history speak to us", the creator of Europos Parkas says.
